Join us for the release of Mark Leidner's new poetry collection, "Elegy for Pangaea", in conversation with Baltimore poet Don Berger. The event is free to attend, with registration requested. -- Mark Leidner's third poetry collection, "Elegy for Pangaea", is as funny, strange, and epic as his two previous collections, "Returning the Sword to the Stone" and "Beauty Was the Case that They Gave Me". His new poems explore faith, grief, money, myth, parenting, and poetry itself to create a collection as full of tantalizing ideas and dilemmas as "an enormous library with a waterbed floor." As mystical as it is satirical, as audacious as it is personal, as hysterical as it is disconcerting, in "Elegy for Pangaea", Leidner once again shows us that the only way out of irony is through. Mark Leidner's previous poetry collection, Returning the Sword to the Stone (Fonograf Editions, 2021), was named Best Poetry of 2021 by the New York Times. His story collection Under the Sea (Tyrant Books, 2018) was called "virtuosic" by the New York Times. He wrote and produced the 2019 sci-fi thriller Empathy, Inc. Mark is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, grew up in Georgia, and now lives in California.

Don Berger

Donald Berger is the author of The Rose of Maine, winner of the 2024 James Tate International Poetry Prize, Pizza Necklace, The Long Time, winner of the Poetry Prize of the German Academy for Language and Poetry, and Quality Hill. The recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship in Germany, his poems have appeared in journals in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. He has taught in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Maryland.
